Course Objectives

Explore how the Placebo Effect has kept acupunturists on their toes
Use the analytical tools to be able to account for the placebo effect and how to mitigate this bias.
Understand How the biomedical perception of the placebo effect changed after randomized controlled trials (RCTs) became the "gold standard" and how to move forward.

Meet the instructor

Lisa Conboy MA. MS. ScD.

Dr. Conboy is a social epidemiologist
specializing in public health and research
methodology. She is the Director of
Research at the Seattle Institute of East
Asian Medicine and a longstanding
Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical
School. Dr. Conboy also chairs the
Research Committee of the American
Society of Acupuncturists (ASA), and is
active in the education special interest
group for the Society of Acupuncture
Research (SAR), and the National
Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA).
She holds a Doctor of Science in Public
Health from Harvard University.Helping students find their voice to answer
questions of interest to them.
